Welcome to Budo Jissen Karate

“The ultimate aim of the art of karate lies not in victory or defeat, but in the perfection of the characters of its participants.”

Our goals & Philisophy

Shotokan Karate Built For Today

Budo Jissen Karate, translated into English, means “Martial Way of Applied Karate”. We are an entirely ‘not-for-profit’ organisation run exclusively by volunteer (but highly professional) instructors.

The purpose of the BJK is to promote and teach Shotokan Karate-do in a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment. We aim to enhance physical fitness, self-discipline, and mutual respect among our members through the practice and study of Shotokan Karate-do. We will remain respectful to the history and culture of the martial art while maintaining a modern, practical, and professional outlook for our development, purpose, and practice.

While the BJK is not a sport or competition focused karate organisation, we will support our members in their endeavours should they wish to pursue this route and ensure opportunities are available

Affiliations & Partnerships

Governing Body

We are affiliated with the British Martial Art & Boxing Association as our governing body. The BMABA are “a leading independent martial arts association that regulates, develops and promotes grass roots martial arts throughout the UK.” with over 60,000 members covering 150 styles.

We chosed to join the BMABA due to their impressive record of high standards of governance and good practice, the excellent insurance and services they can provide us and our members, and their commitment to social enterprises in the UK.

White Tiger Gi

We have partnered with White Tiger Gi as the official gi of the BJK. The quality of their products is exceptional and we are proud to say we had a hand in helping design a specific ‘Female Fit’ version of their most popular gi.

Bruce, the owner of White Tiger Gi, has been incredibly supportive of our organisation. They produce our sew on badges and now offer us direct to gi embroidery of the BJK logo on all our orders; all with a healthy discount to reflect our non-profit status.

Please have a look at their website and remember to order through your instructor to get the discounted price.  If you own one of their gis, why not leave them a review?
